Model #416Model number: 416

Vessels from this model:
2 built, modeled by NGH
#187804es Toby (1878)
#187806es [Sailboat for #40p Leila] (1878)

Original text on model:
"TOBY 1878 for OWL and GAMECOCK Races NGH as a sailing and gig for a unknown word rowboat in about 1881
one yawl for steamer #40 12 ft. long LEILA" (Source: Original handwritten annotation on model. Undated.)

Model Description:
"12' loa Toby, rowing and sailing gig of 1878; used for the Owl and Gamecock race, a rowing regatta held annually during the New York Yacht Club's Annual Cruise for club crews in gigs and cutters. This model was also used to build a tender for the steam yacht Leila." (Source: Bray, Maynard. 2004.)

Model Comment:
"Given the different dimensions, it is questionable if the '16ft sail boat for Leila' mentioned in offset booklet HH.4.00.2 on p. 25 and the 'yawl for steamer #40 12 ft. long Leila' mentioned on the back of Model 416 are one and the same. But note that both are sail boats." (Source: van der Linde, Claas. March 11, 2021.)

Note: Vessels that appear in the records as not built, a cancelled contract, a study model, or as a model sailboat are listed but not counted in the list of vessels built from a model.
